New Nintendo Direct Reveals Next Paper Mario Game is NOT an RPG, We Openly Weep

Updated

Did no one play Sticker Star? The battle system in that game was bad! Paper Mario is meant to be a turn based RPG, this is a total disaster.

Anyways, a few days ago we reported on Activision's decision to basically skip out of E3 this year, but it really isn't such a huge deal, as more and more publishers are choosing to forego the big trade show experience in lieu of their own independent (and cheaper) thing. Nintendo was one of the first big companies to do such a thing, deciding that they would speak to their fans directly through an outline series of videos entitled (you guessed it!) Nintendo Directs. Unlike E3, Nintendo hosts new versions of their Directs quite often in a given year, and just yesterday the company took to the interwebs to talk up their latest slate.

But the biggest news out of the livesteam was the announcement of Paper Mario: Color Splash, which will be coming exclusively to the Wii U. This will be the first console exclusive for the Paper Mario franchise since 2007's Super Paper Mario, which was released for the original Wii back in 2007. That was when Nintendo was considered at the absolute height of the gaming industry and an unstoppable giant so, y'know, it's been a while. With the console on its last legs and Nintendo's next console right on its way, it's still nice to see the company giving the system SOME support.

Other games announced during the presentation include yet another new Kirby game (Kirby: Planet Robobot for the 3DS), a companion game for Star Fox Zero entitled Star Fox Guard, and a music game entitled Rhythm Heaven Megamix. But for more details on those games (and other, already announced games like Metroid Prime: Federation Force and Monster Hunter Generation), you can check out the video of the actual Direct below.

But if you came here looking for new gameplay from the next gen Legend of Zelda game, you'll likely go away disappointed, as Nintendo didn't focus on the title at all during this presentation. In all honesty I forgot that game exists/didn't come out already, and I was actually REALLY looking forward to it! In any case, can't wait to play it launch day for the Nintendo NX come later this year!
