Activision Won't Have A Booth At E3, Gamers Everywhere Shrug

Meanwhile, I'm still having trouble putting "16" instead of "15" when filling out the date on paperwork, so...yeah, this year is going by way too fast.

But believe it or not, E3 2016 is right around the corner, if you consider a quarter of a year to be "right around the corner," of course. For the nature of this paragraph, let's say that, yes, it is that, which means big companies are going to start delving into what they will — and what they won't — bring to the big convention.

Of course one of the bigger companies out there is Activision, and for years they've had a pretty consistent showing at the trade show — but apparently that will be no more in 2016, as the company announced today via their blog that they won't have a presence on the show floor during this year's event. Their biggest franchise (Call of Duty) will have a presence there as part of Sony's annual keynote, but the software giant itself won't be stopping by the Los Angeles Convention Center.

That's a pretty big deal for the trade show and the organization that runs it, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) — Activision Blizzard was a stalwart of E3, and often times purchased out the biggest (and most expensive) booth area on the show. Them skipping out on the conference is going to make for a massive hole in the entire show, and it's going to be very difficult for the ESA to fill that hole.

And it wasn't like Activision is the first big publisher to bow out of the convention — just a few months ago EA announced they wouldn't be making the show either, instead choosing to host their own event (EA Play) in Los Angeles a few days before. Will another big publisher like Capcom or Take Two be able to fill the void left behind by Activision? Either way, it's going to make for a very interesting convention come June 14.
