Disney's live-action 'Mulan' sets release date

Walt Disney is fast-tracking production on their live-action, 3D take on the female warrior tale "Mulan."

The film will hit theaters on Nov. 2, 2018, the studio announced Tuesday.

The script is written by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver ("Jurassic World"), who came on to rewrite the spec script after Disney purchased it in 2015. Jason Reed is attached to produce alongside Chris Bender and Jake Weiner.

"Mulan" told the story of a young woman who disguises herself as a man so she can join the army and fight in a war. The character first appeared in an ancient Chinese poem, and it's unknown whether Mulan is based on a real heroine or if the poem was merely an allegory.
