Kendall Jenner may be one of the more private ones of the Kardashian clan, but she's always been completely forthcoming about her battle with acne. She's shared her personal story in the pages of this magazine and offered tips from her go-to dermatologist, Christie Kidd, on how to get rid of it. (Kidd's tip on bacne is kind of genius.) Today Jenner is taking it one step further, posting a video on her website with a recipe for creating a spot treatment with ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen.

Jenner mixes half a teaspoon of baking soda, half a teaspoon of lemon juice, and a teaspoon of honey, and uses that mixture as a spot treatment. In the video, she captions that the baking soda and lemon juice act to "dry out" the pimple, while honey works to "soothe irritation." Allure just published a lengthy report on honey and whether it can help treat acne, and Jenner is right on that it's anti-inflammatory.

But what does a top derm think of Jenner's concoction? "The combination of baking soda, lemon juice, and honey contain natural ingredients that may help an angry pimple," says Joshua Zeichner, director of cosmetic and clinical research in dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. "Baking soda absorbs oil; acids in the lemon juice will exfoliate dead cells from the skin's surface; and honey will both calm and soothe inflamed skin and may help kill acne-causing bacteria on the skin." However, for a really angry and inflamed pimple, Zeichner says it's best to stick to the strong stuff. "If you want to get rid of a large, painful, red pimple as soon as possible, my skin-clearing trifecta includes a product with 2.5 percent benzoyl peroxide, 2 percent salicylic acid, and 1 percent hydrocortisone."
