The actors, who portray fraternal nemeses in the Thor films (as well as 2012's The Avengers), visited patients at Lady Cilento Children's Hospital in South Brisbane Tuesday, bringing along the hero's iconic hammer and their long locks to put a smile on the kids' faces.

The actors helped raise the spirits of the kids by taking photos and spending time with the patients and their families.

Hemsworth, 33, tweeted: "Met the real superheroes of the world at Lady Cilento Children's Hospital. A huge shout out to these brave kids!"

The stars also met with 9-year-old Calyn Hoad, who is a head trauma patient at the hospital.

In 2013, he saved his younger brother's life when he pushed him out of the way of a car in traffic. Calyn was hit by the car and suffered massive brain injuries.

Calyn has been in the hospital ever since. A Facebook page set up by his family said: "Though all the odds were against him somehow he survived and is now going through the long hard recovery process unable to talk or walk and with minimal communication to everyone around him Calyn is still fighting with all he has to come back to us."

On Wednesday, Hemsworth returned to spend more time with the kids inside the hospital.
