Freeform has given a pilot order to "Alone Together," a new scripted comedy from The Lonely Island — the comedic troupe and production company founded by Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer.

The half-hour show will tell the story of two overlooked millennial misfits from different backgrounds who enjoy a male-female platonic relationship as they try to navigate life in Los Angeles. Esther Povitsky ("Lady Dynamite," "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend") and Benji Afalo ("Not Safe with Nikki Glaser") will star in the pilot, and will write and executive produce with Eben Russell.

"This is a fiercely funny look at young adults who are unapologetically themselves while blazing their own paths, which fits nicely into the tradition already set by our current slate," said Karey Burke, executive vice president, programming and development.

The pilot order for "Alone Together" follows Freeform's renewal last week of comedy "Baby Daddy," which is now set to pass the 100-episode mark in its sixth season. Freeform has also handed out recent series orders to "Famous In Love," "Marvel's Cloak and Dagger" and "Bachelor" spin-off "Ben and Lauren: Happily Ever After."

In March, Fox launched a new Saturday-night sketch-comedy series, "Party Over Here," executive produced by the Lonely Island members.
