Ryan Reynolds pens heartbreaking tribute after 13-year-old 'Deadpool' fan succumbs to cancer

Ryan Reynolds wrote a stirring tribute to perhaps the world's biggest Deadpool fan after the 13-year-old boy died of cancer on Tuesday.

Reynolds met Connor McGrath through the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which was able to help the teen become the first person to see the Deadpool film, which stars Reynolds.

"Connor was 13. But this kid ... He was smart. He was funny. And not just funny 'for a kid' -- or funny 'for a person battling something awful'. He was unqualified funny. He had that ... thing," Reynolds wrote in the lengthy tribute to his young friend.

McGrath was hospitalized in Edmonton, Alberta.

Reynolds defended McGrath being allowed to see the R-rated film, which features over-the-top violence and raunchy language.

"Before you jump down my throat for showing a 13 year old an R-Rated film, please know this kid knew more swear words than a British chef," Reynolds wrote.

McGrath loved the rough cut of the film Reynolds showed him and audiences loved the final version as the film went on to become one of the top grossing R-rated films of all time.

Reynolds stayed in touch with McGrath and even gave the boy his cell number so the two could exchange "pages and pages" of text messages.

"He went way too early and it's impossible to reconcile. Connor was a great friend, a great son, and a light to the people lucky enough to know him," Reynolds wrote. "I'm grateful I got to orbit Connor's world for a brief time."
