Former NYC Home to Glenn Close, Emma Stone at $22.5 Million
Agents for the property on West 20th Street say the building's five rental apartments have been home to Glenn Close when she was filming "Fatal Attraction," lovebirds Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield when they were filming "The Amazing Spider-Man," and Courtney Love when she was being Courtney Love.
The 10,000-square-foot townhouse was built in 1835 and now features floor-through apartments (a New York real estate term for units covering an entire floor) of about 1,800 square feet each. They include wood-burning fireplaces, high ceilings, detailed original crown moldings and sound-proofed rooms. The garden apartment has a private entrance, three bathrooms, and a private rear yard. And the penthouse features a dedicated elevator, 18-foot-high ceilings, skylights and access to a rooftop garden area with views of the Manhattan skyline and Hudson River.
The townhouse's star power was born in 1834 when Clement Clarke Moore, author of "The Night Before Christmas," divided his family's Chelsea estate into lots as the rapidly growing city pushed northward, a spokesman representing the property said.
Actress Frances Gaar, best known for playing the nurse in the 1958 TV movie "Hans Brinker and the Silver Skates," purchased the house in 1962 and rented to show business bright lights before selling it for $6.2 million to developers Michael Daniel and Michael Bolla shortly before her death in 2008. The developers launched a two-year renovation that updated and restored the townhouse to its original grandeur.
Victor Sozio, vice president of Ariel Property Advisors, which is marketing the property, says potential buyers could keep the townhouse as rental apartments that fetch roughly $620,000 in annual income, convert units to condos that could command up to $5.5 million each, or reconfigure the property to create an urban compound with two or three apartments for family members.
We think Meryl Streep, who lives in a Tribeca penthouse, should consider buying the property so she could have two of her daughters even closer. Louisa, a model, recently bought a three-bedroom condo in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn. Mamie, an actress lives in a two-bedroom on West 23rd Street.
