Teacher And Students Do That Uptown Funk On Video, Go Viral

The A. Maceo Smith New Tech in Dallas is a new high school trying to make a name in teaching kids to be ready for high tech careers, as its website says. But with its first graduating class this year and such extracurricular activities as robotics, chess, photography, performing arts, and martial arts, you still might not have guessed that it's just achieved viral video fame with close to 3.5 million views in only a few days between YouTube and Facebook.

The Internet sensation was a five-minute student-produced video featuring theatre arts teacher Scot Pankey and his students dancing throughout the school to the song Uptown Funk by English musician and DJ Mark Ronson, featuring the voice of Bruno Mars.

Pankey and dozens of students walk, skip, strut, and run through the halls, up and down stairs, and dance in a single-take without a break.

Student Jonathan Vega, who calls himself #TrippyJ on his YouTube account, wrote, "None of this would have been possible without the hard work and dedication of Director/Theatre Arts Teacher Scot Pankey & his classes with help of Camera crew- Bryan Urraca, Albert Robledo & Johan Cruz."

When Pankey posted the video on his Facebook account, he wrote: "So proud of my kids. We filmed this in one take! This is a great example of how a bunch of technology students dropped their fears, trusted their teacher and got down to Uptown Funk!!!!"
