United Airlines Facing Backlash For Mistreatment Of Pet Dog

There's no greater PR nightmare than a mistreated dog. After facing a backlash on Twitter for leaving a dog on the tarmac in the pouring rain, United Airlines is finding that out the hard way.

Passenger Barbara Galletly tweeted a photo of the pet dog with the caption, "Evil United Airlines leaves dog on rainy cold runway for more than a half hour despite alerts to staff :-((((( boo." The photo, snapped through a plane window covered with raindrops, shows a pet dog sitting in a crate on a rain-soaked tarmac.

United Airlines tweeted back, but their tweet was not the best response: "Thanks for telling us. The weather can change & may have been clear when PetSafe dropped off. They're the ones to call too."

The now-ironically-named PetSafe is United Airlines' "specially designed program" for transporting animals that are not eligible to travel in the aircraft cabin.

Barbara Galletly's photo has been retweeted more than 1,000 times, including by "Chandelier" singer Sia, who vowed never to fly United Airlines again in an expletive-filled tweet. Others on Twitter have expressed similar sentiments, as they accused the airline of negligence, lack of company responsibility, and animal cruelty.

Nothing gets people outraged on social media like the mistreatment of animals, so the airline will have to do some damage control for their mistake and their initial dismissive tweet. Or in other words, it's time for United Airlines to start tweeting some real cute puppy videos.
