A Sherlock Mystery: Is Benedict Cumberbatch Moving to LA?
I heard about the deal from the the British tabloid the Daily Mail, which heard about it from an "estate agent" -- that's what they call listing agents in England -- who reportedly said, "'Benedict's representatives have indicated he is ready to make an initial offer which will not be too far off the asking price, so he could be moving in early in the New Year."
I'll take that as a bona fide rumor, because the U.S. listing agent for the property was out of town for the holidays and his assistant wouldn't interrupt her boss' vacation to confirm/deny this for me. All she'd reveal is that the property is not in escrow – realtor-speak for no deal's gone down yet.
The maybe-Cumberbatch house is a Tuscan-style manse nestled atop a knoll in the western San Fernando Valley, about 22 miles from Beverly Hills. The 14,829 square-foot house has spectacular views of nearby foothills and features:
- seven bedrooms and nine baths.
- master suite with all-stone bath.
- large sitting balcony with sunrise and sunset views.
- game room with wet bar.
- outside guest suite with private entrance.
- five-car garage.
- pool, spa and basketball court.
