Billy Joel Finally Sells Hamptons Oceanfront Estate
The 5,500-square-foot, cedar-shingled home features four, first-floor bedroom suites, a Nate Berkus-renovated chef's kitchen; upper level dining and living rooms with drop-dead gorgeous ocean views; and 145 feet of Long Island beachfront.
Joel has had a bear of a time selling the property, moving its price up, down and all around during its five years on and off the market. It was listed at $22.5 million in 2009 and went as low as $16.75 million during the depths of the housing market collapse. After being relisted, its priced dropped by $600,000 early this year to $22.9 million, Zillow reported.
It was listed for $19.95 million when it went under contract in July, Newsday says.
What's the lesson for mere mortals trying to sell a home? As "Million Dollar Listing" stars Ryan Serhant and Chris Leavitt say, picking the right price that matches neighborhood comps is key.
"It's always about pricing," Serhant says.
