Nearly 130 million U.S. workers commute to work everyday. Besides being a chore, even crossing the street to your office building can be dangerous. Virtually every city has a pedestrian safety problem, especially in high traffic areas.

The surprising solution? Last summer, ad agency BBDO working with safety organization Smart, set up a dance room in a crucial crosswalk in Lisbon, Portugal. Pedestrians were invited to go in and boogie their butts off. Their smooth moves were then shown in real time-as they were happening-on a traffic light nearby.

The good news? It worked. Instead of walking at the red light, people did wait and watch at the Dancing Traffic Light. In fact, 81% paid more attention than they would have at a traditional don't walk light.
