Solitaire: Classic Tips and Tricks

Solitaire, also known as Klondike, is one of the most popular games offered on games.com. Solitaire tests your patience and strategy until the last card is turned. The game is fun but can be mentally taxing. Don't worry, here are some tips and tricks to help you out!

Tips

1. Play your Aces and Deuces

It's always a smart move to send an Ace or Deuce to the Ace pile. Whenever you see one just double click it and it will be sent to the corresponding pile

2. Don't touch that deck!

Before you click on the deck to see what cards you can use, make sure that the board is aligned correctly according to color (alternating between black and red cards) . You can always click and move around cards that are already face up on the table. This is important because you want to be able to identify what cards you need in certain rows when you eventually use the deck.

3. Make the smart play

As a rule of thumb, you always want to move cards that free up a downward facing card AKA a downcard. Sometimes you may consider not making that move and instead wait for a chance to work on the large downcard pile. You also want to work on moving cards away from your largest downcard pile whenever possible. Freeing up the downcards in that pile is important because there are so many of them.

4. Column Rules

When you are moving cards from column to column make sure you are doing so to free up a downcard. If you have an open column, the first card that should be in that column is a King. This helps to ensure all your cards are in order when you are ending the game.






5. Ace Piles

While it is tempting to send cards to the ace pile it is important to remember that before that happens you must clear all the cards, face up and face down on the table. You can build your ace stacks before the end of the game but remember to only send cards in the following scenarios.

Build your ace pile when the play will: clear a spot for a King, free up a downcard, not disturb the next card in your deck's rotation, or allow a transfer of cards to a column and free up a downcard.

Remember that if you do send a card to an ace pile on accident you can always double click that card and return it to its original pile.

6. Hail Mary!

If you are at your wits end even after reading these tips, try double clicking on the cards you have remaining. If there is a move you did not see and you double click on a card, the card will automatically move to the correct position.
