5 platforming games for iOS and Android

If you loved playing Super Mario Bros as a kid, chances are you have a real appreciation for 2D platforming games. For those new to platform games, a platform game (or platformer) is a video game which involves guiding an avatar to jump between suspended platforms and over obstacles to advance the level (thanks wikipedia!)

I, for one, have been addicted to these types of games since childhood. Years ago I even downloaded an emulator so I could play them on my PC. You could only imagine my excitement when mobile gaming really blew up and Sonic the Hedgehog was released on iOS and Android. Since then a slew of great platforming games have been released on iOS and Android.

Sonic CD ($2.99)



If you need a Sonic fix for your mobile device, the first place you'll want to start is Sonic CD. Originally released on Sega CD over two decades ago, this time-traveling platform adventure hasn't lost a step, thanks to solid gameplay, enriched visuals and the ability to select between U.S. and Japanese soundtracks. Being able to play as Tails or Knuckles (as you unlock them) is a nice touch as well.
