New Zelda to have multiplayer options

Updated

It sounds like the new The Legend of Zelda arriving on Wii U will have multiplayer features, according to game director Eiji Aonuma.

Mr. Aonuma outlined his ideas for having a multiplayer component to the upcoming Zelda game involving the Wii U Gamepad, the tablet-like device that is used as a second screen for many Nintendo Wii U games. He discussed his idea of having one player use the television for their display while the Gamepad showed a second screen for the second player.

"Instead of having a splitscreen on the television, you have one-player playing on the television and one on the GamePad," he said. "When I was talking back about making Zelda more than just a single-player experience? That's something you will see in the future, maybe next year."

Mr. Aonuma also discussed the upcoming Dynasty Warriors-like game Hyrule Warriors, saying, "The two-player functionality of Hyrule Warriors is actually something that has traditionally been done in the Dynasty Warriors series, but they've changed because of the hardware and the second screen on your GamePad."

We will bring you more on the new The Legend of Zelda game as soon as we get more details!
