Sorry, Portland: Fred Armisen Opts for Hip LA Neighborhood
By Erika Riggs
Fred Armisen may pursue a life of hipsterdom on the popular TV show "Portlandia," which pokes fun at the cultural happenings and leanings of Portland, Ore, but his real home is about 1,000 miles south of the "City of Roses." Armisen's new residence is a redone bungalow in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles. Of course, Silver Lake is considered just as "hipster" as Portland and has topped Forbes' annual "Hippest Hipster City" list most years.
The cost of being a hipster in L.A.? Armisen paid $763,00 for his new home, with an estimated mortgage payment of $2,976 a month. The Silver Lake market is hot -- with home values of $782,500 and rising.
Tucked away on a hillside lot, Armisen's 1,446 square-foot home has three bedrooms and two bathrooms, as well as a detached garage and unfinished bonus space. The kitchen, like the rest of the house, was updated and features a reclaimed barn wood island, marble countertops and a farmhouse sink.
Although Armisen bought in LA, he will be spending quite a bit of time in New York, where it was recently announced that he will be the bandleader on "Late Night With Seth Meyers."
