Boeing Adds a Handful of Widebodies to Its Order Book

On Thursday, Boeing released its latest report on airplane orders received -- and canceled -- in 2014. Covering the bulk of plane orders booked for the month of January, it shows Boeing gradually moving away from its reliance on single-aisle orders, and beginning to notch some wins in the wide-body airplane market.

In addition to the 30 "net" orders for 737s that we already knew about, Boeing has now added orders for four new 777s from an "unidentified customer(s)," plus one order for a new 787 from a "business jet/VIP customer." Boeing's tally now stands at:

  • 33 "gross" orders for various flavors of its 737 regional airliner;

  • four orders for the 777 airliner; and

  • a single order for a 787 Dreamliner.

After subtracting the three 737 orders reported last week, this leaves Boeing with a total of 35 net orders booked year to date.
