Will Interest on Savings Accounts Ever Rise?

Updated

In this video from Tuesday's Where the Money Is as part of the Motley Fool's "Ask a Fool" series, Fool banking analysts Matt Koppenheffer and David Hanson take a question from a Fool reader, who asks, "Will interest on savings accounts ever rise? What can you put money into that will beat the banks?"

David and Matt discuss why they do believe the interest on savings accounts will ultimately go up again eventually, and Matt tells investors why Bank of Internet might be an interesting place to look for higher yields. But, they also caution that it is always important when looking at a savings account to know what the purpose of that money is.

If having cash on hand in case of an emergency is the main point of the savings account, then maintaining liquidity is often much more important than finding the highest yield for that money.

Could Internet banking soon close your bank branch?
Do you hate your bank? If you're like most Americans, chances are good that you answered yes to that question. While that's not great news for consumers, it certainly creates opportunity for savvy investors. That's because there's a brand-new company that's revolutionizing banking, and is poised to kill the hated traditional brick-and-mortar banking model. And amazingly, despite its rapid growth, this company is still flying under the radar of Wall Street. For the name and details on this company, click here to access our new special free report.
