Valero Energy Corp., Phillips 66, or Marathon Petroleum Corp.: Which Refiner Will Impress This Quart

I would never go so far as to say that Valero , Phillips 66 , and Marathon Petroleum are all the exact same thing, but they all do share several qualities that allow for investors to analyze them in very similar ways. Not only do they each have refining footprints that are close in size, but the locations of those assets are relatively similar and they all have some of the largest gasoline and diesel export capacity in the nation. With so many similar traits, there are a few metrics to look at that will help you determine the success of these companies.
