John Mayer's Manhattan Bachelor Pad Sells for $3.9 Million

John Mayer's NYC living room

John Mayer has spent the past few years making up for the mess he made of kissing and telling with too many star-quality celebrity women lovers, so it's not surprising to see the guitar-strumming crooner do away with his New York bachelor pad. Mayer's two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment at 255 Lafayette St., New York. N.Y. 10012, located in the section of downtown Manhattan between Little Italy and Soho, sold for $3.9 million.
Inaugural Swearing In
The 2,060-square-foot apartment was noted for its 15 dramatic windows that let light flood the place. The pad had been Mayer's lair since 2005, when he purchased the 1909-era unit for $2.1 million. He then enlisted his favorite designer (Armani) to help turn the place in a respectable home that reflected what Mayer hoped would be his earned happiness after so much musical success. Mayer's home was such a point of pride that he allowed the apartment to be featured in a spread in Elle Decor magazine.

Then came the headlines and interviews in which Mayer confessed too much, too baldly about ex-loves like Jennifer Aniston and Jessica Simpson. The fallout was not pretty, so off Mayer went to Montana, where he hunkered down in intentional isolation in Paradise Valley, between Bozeman and the northwestern entrance to Yellowstone National Park in Gardiner.

These days, Mayer has rejoined civilization, and the sale of his former bachelor pad has made it easier for Mayer to spend more time on the West Coast, where he's now dating Katy Perry. The singers (shown above) were the picture of cute coupledom after the Grammy's, which were held in Los Angeles on Jan. 26.

Perry bought herself a new mid-century modern home in L.A. last year, following her divorce from Russell Brand and the sale of the home Perry once shared with Brand. Meanwhile, Mayer had already sold his Pacific Palisades abode in 2011, but perhaps his budding romance with Perry will entice him to buy again in L.A.
