Texas Cop's Playful Act of Kindness Makes Him 10-Year-Old's Hero

A Texas cop on a routine patrol made an impression for life when he took the time to throw a football with a 10-year-old boy who was playing by himself.

The dash cam on Sgt. Ariel Soltura's patrol car captured the spontaneous moment of him getting out of his car and signaling for a pass from 10-year-old Jermaine Ford, who lives with his mom, two sisters and a female cousin in Rosenberg.

The Rosenberg, TX police department put the video on their Facebook page and it went viral. Jermaine and the sergeant were reunited yesterday and made a pact of friendship for life.

The boy told Fox & Friends at first he thought he was in trouble because when the police come that's what it usually means.

Millions have now viewed the video and Soltura says he hopes it serves as a model for how the police can create more cooperation through a positive healthy relationship with citizens.

"With me being a single parent he really doesn't have a male role model in his life but I do my best with him," Jermaine's mom Tynesa Mathews told Fox & Friends.

"That's going to be an impact on my son's life for the rest of his life," Mathews added. Sgt. Soltura, who is the father of a 5-year-old boy, exchanged phone numbers with Jermaine and told him, "We are friends for life, buddy." He also gave the boy a tour of his police cruiser.

A Fort Bend County little league football team the Rosenberg Roughnecks has come forward with a scholarship for Jermaine to play on their team.

The 10-year-old, who says Sgt. Soltura is his hero, now wants to be a football player or a police officer when he grows up.
