The Top 5 Sidekicks in Video Games

Today, Gamespot's Jess McDonell brings us a list of the top 5 sidekicks in video game history. She talks about a wide variety of characters from many different franchises, which is nice, but I have to say, I disagree with most of them. First of all, she counts Navi as a "good" sidekick, which is an interesting choice, considering the fact that I get momentary PTSD-inducing flashbacks every time I hear someone say "Hey!" in a high-pitched voice. You can barely take a step in Hyrule without her telling you that yes, intuitively pushing the controller forward means that's the direction you're going to move.

She also overlooks two of my favorite sidekicks of all time: Shadowmere, the badass horse from the Elder Scrolls (pictured above, fighting a SNOW BEAR), and Kazooie, the sassy, power-boosting bird from Banjo-Kazooie. Without her, the game would have just been a clumsy, sleepy bear bumbling around. Actually, I'm pretty sure Banjo wouldn't have woken up to start the game in the first place.
