The 5 Fastest Growing Jobs Where You Can Make More Than $65,000 Per Year

Updated

Sick of your job? Consider switching to one of these high-paying and rapidly expanding careers.

There are five jobs in America that are expected to add more than 225,000 jobs to the workforce by 2022, and they all pay more than $65,000 per year. While health care is a popular subject these days, the reality remains that it's the industry expected to see the fastest job growth over the next decade.

These jobs are all expected to grow by more than 35%, which is three times higher than the 11% increase seen by all jobs in the U.S. And while all of these are high-paying jobs, individuals shouldn't be discouraged thinking they don't have the credentials, as the fastest-growing job doesn't even require a degree from a four-year college or university.

It is estimated that there are currently more than 200,000 physical therapists (PTs) in America, yet it is expected that by 2022, an additional 73,500 will be needed in the workforce. This is because of the aging baby boomer population that is more active, and the increased amount of mobility problems resulting from chronic diseases like obesity and diabetes.

Health Specialties Teachers, Postsecondary

There is a pretty clear trend on this list and the industry most of these high-paying jobs are in, so it should come as no surprise that there will be an increased demand for instructors who are able to teach students at colleges, universities, and trade schools the valuable skills needed to do these jobs. It's expected that there will be almost 260,000 postsecondary teachers in health subjects in 2022, resulting in an additional 68,000 jobs.

With the Target debit card issues still fresh in the memories of millions of Americans, it's no wonder individuals who have the necessary skills to prevent problems like that in the future will be in high demand. Although the total job growth is expected to be less, adding around 27,000 jobs, the reality remains that these jobs will still be needed across all industries.

Physician Assistants

Job Growth

Like physical therapists, the increase of chronic conditions and an aging population will be one reason for the heightened demand for physician assistants, a category expected to add 33,000 jobs by 2022, but another factor will also be the shortage of physicians expected to occur, requiring PAs to both do more and be used more frequently.

Diagnostic Medical Sonographers

Median Pay

Associate's degree

Job Growth

While the other careers may already be household names, diagnostic medical sonographers may soon be as well, considering there will be another 27,000 of them in the U.S. by 2022, bringing the total to 86,000. These individuals do ultrasounds to create images of the body's organs and tissues, making images to allow doctors and physicians to diagnose medical conditions and diseases. Although ultrasounds are typically thought of as being for pregnant women, these individuals are now being asked to help scan the body from the head to the feet.

Certainly jobs are a hot-button issue these days, but a career in one of these fields will be in high demand for years to come.
