Venus Williams' stellar globetrotting career has allowed the tennis champion to incorporate the colors, textures and design styles from all around the world in her fashion and interior design empires. But the real hallmark of this sophisticated designer might be the utter restraint Williams used during her impressive remodel of her very own Hollywood Hills' midcentury modern.

The 33-year-old L.A. native listed the 1,528-square-foot gem at 2521 Astral Drive in Los Angeles for $1,799,000.

Given the resurgent L.A. real estate market and the premium that buyers are willing to pay for classic midcentury properties like this, it may not last long. Williams (pictured at right) purchased the property for $1.9 million back in 2005, then went to town, turning it into a mint-condition specimen of the popular midcentury modern style.

"She really took her time and redecorated the entire thing in 2007 and 2008,'' said listing agent Christine Taylor of Gibson International who is co-listing the three-bedroom, two-bathroom beauty with Rada Roberts of Coldwell Banker. "She put in a new deck, redid all the floors, added the fireplace and all the hardware is new.''

The decision to sell the property reportedly wasn't easy, even though Venus and her sister, Serena, own other properties in the Los Angeles area, as well as luxurious estates in Florida. "They have numerous properties, but they can't live in all of them, so she decided it was time to sell, especially now that the market is stronger again. This property was close to all the Hollywood activities, but she was not using it very much,'' Taylor said.

Venus' home is set in the heart of Nichols Canyon, with a gated private driveway. The lot is just under a half an acre, complete with grassy yard and pool overlooking the canyons. With her own business, Williams has been known to run the gamut of styles when it comes to taking on interior design projects. However, Taylor said that Williams has always had a knack for keeping the decorative design of each home she does in keeping with the home's architectural integrity.

These days, Venus Williams, now ranked No. 47th in the world among all professional women tennis players, is gearing up for the Australian Open; the first Grand Slam of the season that starts Jan. 13.
