Gasoline Starts 2014 Up Slightly
Americans were paying more at the gas pump in the first days of 2014 than they were the previous week, according to an Energy Information Administration report released Monday.
The national average price for regular gasoline clocked in at $3.332 per gallon Monday, up a slight $0.001 from a week ago and $0.033 above the same time last year. East Coast prices increased the most over the past week ($0.025), while Midwesterners welcomed a $0.042-per-gallon price drop.

Diesel prices also increased slightly, edging up $0.007 over the past week to $3.91 per gallon. This latest price tag puts diesel just $0.001 per gallon below the same time last year. Gulf Coast prices increased the most last week ($0.013), while Midwesterners got off easy again with a small $0.001 rise.

At these latest prices, the West Coast still pays the prettiest penny for gasoline ($3.547) and diesel ($4.034), while the Rocky Mountain region can guzzle gas for just $3.12 and the Gulf Coast grabs diesel for $3.802 per gallon.
