Corning Introduces Antimicrobial Gorilla Glass

Corning has put a new twist on its popular offering, Gorilla Glass. The company has unveiled an antimicrobial version of the product at the International Consumer Electronics Show. According to the company, it is the first such product on the market.

The new version of Gorilla Glass is, in Corning's words, "formulated with an antibacterial agent, ionic silver, which is incorporated into the glass surface for sustained activity." According to the company, the agent inhibits the growth of microbes such as mold and fungi, and is effective for the lifetime of the device it's installed in.

Gorilla Glass is a strong yet light product developed by Corning, and used in many popular cell phones and tablets. These include Google's Nexus smartphones and Apple's iPhones.
