Shutterstock Rolls Out New Android App

It's been a year since Shutterstock introduced its mobile app for iOS users, but users of mobile devices running the industry-leading Android operating system have been left wanting. Until now. Shutterstock announced today it has launched an app for Android OS devices, supporting the digital imagery provider's mobile user growth.

Shutterstock said in the past year alone, its mobile usage has more than tripled and now accounts for an estimated 10% of the company's Internet traffic. Commenting on the importance of the mobile market to Shutterstock, Vice President of Product Wyatt Jenkins said, "We've found mobile to be an increasingly important platform for designers and marketers to search and discover beautiful imagery."

Android's market leadership in smartphones is indicative of how valuable Shutterstock's new mobile app may be. According to IDC, in the third quarter of 2013 Android was the OS of choice for 81% of the smartphones sold. Shutterstock's new mobile app will allow users to conduct searches, browse photos, and share image lightboxes (a means of placing focus on an image or displaying larger images).

The new Android mobile app is free, according to Shutterstock.
