Delta Bounces Passengers for Florida Basketball Team

Travel tip: Looking for better service on Delta Airlines, dress like a college basketball player.

On Sunday, the carrier canceled Delta Connection flight 5059 out of Gainesville Regional Airport, removing about 50 passengers on board, to instead use the plane as a private commercial flight for the University of Florida's men's basketball team, the "Gainsville Sun" reports.

A maintenance delay grounded the aircraft meant to carry the team from Gainesville to Storrs, Conn., for its Monday-night game against the University of Connecticut, which was scheduled to start at 7 p.m.

Delta spokesman Michael Thomas apologized to the booted passengers on behalf of the airline. And Florida ended up losing to Connecticut anyway.
