Yahoo! Makes a Fresh Acquisition
Yahoo! seems determined to continue widening its already-long acquisition streak. The company's Yahoo! Labs division has acquired a small language processing company, SkyPhrase, both companies announced. The terms of the deal were not made public.
In a statement appearing on its home page SkyPhrase said that as a team, it and Yahoo! would "continue to work on our shared vision of making computers deeply understand people's natural language and intentions."
SkyPhrase's team of four will join Yahoo! Labs at the unit's office in New York, the latter company said in its announcement.
Under the reign of current CEO Marissa Mayer Yahoo! has been on a buying binge, snapping up a host of young tech firms. Among numerous other purchases the company acquired microblogging platform Tumblr in a deal closed this past June, and a month later bought mobile advertising specialist AdMovate.
