These Nintendo Holiday Commercials Are Awful

Updated

Wow. These holiday-themed Nintendo commercials are downright awful. As James from Pure Nintendo puts it, the company seems to be "falling back on the Disney, family, happy together marketing strategy," and the results are not pretty. Everything about them seems incredibly staged, scripted, and uncomfortable - from the canned lines and awkward laughs to the horrible, cheesy jokes:

Nintendo is clearly trying to play up the all-inclusive "family" aspect of its gaming systems. This isn't surprising, considering that the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One have dominated every area of the gaming world lately, from media buzz to hard sales; Nintendo needs to find a way to differentiate itself from the competition, and the company has clearly decided that the family friendly feel is the way to go. We just wish they'd give their prospective consumers a little more credit and make an ad that's actually interesting, like this one from 2006:

Did these commercials seriously come from the same company? Here's to hoping Nintendo stops being so saccharine and goes for advertising that's a bit more engaging this holiday season.
