Everyone loves a bargain, and thankfully you can save on many areas in your life -- that is, if you know how to go about it. Using penny-pinching savvy and a few of these helpful tips, you can avoid paying full price for just about anything.

Of course, the best material things in life aren't free, so Lifehacker has offered a list of things you can always save on. Here are five of our favorite items you can get on discount.

1. Clothing - Fresh duds are always great to have, but if you can wait (and you almost always can), you can cash in on as much as 60-70 percent off of retail prices at the end of the season. If you have your eye on a particular item, check back during holiday and online sales during which retailer almost always offer discounts on current stock. And, if you don't mind gently used clothes, check out a secondhand shop like Buffalo Exchange where you can generally get trendy seasonal items for less.

2. Technology - Technology changes by the minute, which means there are always refurbished items on the market. Buying refurbs will amount to instant savings on the latest gadgets, many of which are unused and simply returned or unboxed. Lifehacker recommends passing on an extended warranty option and selling your old tech items -- think phones, laptops and tablets -- for cash when you can.

3. Groceries - It's easy to save at the grocery store, if you can pay attention to sales and are willing to be flexible in the kitchen. Sign up for a loyalty card that will automatically apply discounts at the register, and rework your menu to accommodate what's on sale. Take advantage of two-for-one deals on products with a long shelf life and know which generic items will always save you money.

4. Books and Magazines - If you love to read, make sure you're getting your material for less. Amazon offers low prices for used books from a variety of retailers, and since many people read books once and get rid of them, you'll usually find what you're looking for, even if it's a relatively new release. There are many sites that offer free e-books, and you can always head to the library to borrow a title. If you love magazines, go ahead an subscribe. Lifehacker says, "It's often significantly cheaper to subscribe, even if you only read two or three issues a year."

5. Cars - Need new wheels? Don't even think about paying full sticker price. Do your research to find out what you should and shouldn't be paying for, as well as whether you should buy or lease. Since cars depreciate as soon as you drive them off the lot, you might want to consider buying a used car to save you a bundle.
