Did Google Just Make a Huge Wireless Play?

Apple launches its brand-new iPad Air on Friday, but plenty of consumers are anxiously awaiting the arrival of the iPad Mini with Retina display. Google's next moonshot may have already landed in the water, Fool contributor Tim Beyers says in the following video.

The search king has a four-story barge floating in the San Francisco Bay. What does it contain? No one knows. Reports from CNET and the local CBS affiliate say the facility could house either a water-based data center, or a massive marketing center for Google Glass.


Either way, Tim says, Google wouldn't undertake such a project without first making heavy investments in advanced wireless technology. Something that delivers the sort of reliable, blazing fast Internet access that led Google to invest in WiMAX so many years ago.
