Marvel Still Doesn't Match DC in This Key Area -- but It's Getting Closer

Marvel and Walt Disney are finally mounting a serious challenge to Time Warner and DC when it comes to video gaming, Fool contributor Tim Beyers says in the following video.

Lego Marvel Super Heroes releases on the PS3 in North America this week, with versions for the PS4 and Xbox One due next month. Initial gameplay footage looks good, Tim says. The release also comes as Time Warner and DC introduce the latest in the ultra-successful Arkham franchise, Batman: Arkham Origins. Marvel hasn't had this strong a competitor to a top DC franchise in years.

Can we expect this to be a win for Marvel and Walt Disney, then? If only. The same team that produced the acclaimed Lego Batman series, TT Games, is also behind Lego Marvel Super Heroes. TT Games is a Time Warner subsidiary.

That's right: When Marvel needed a video-game hero, it turned to DC. Similar efforts to bring forth games tied to the Star Wars franchise led Walt Disney to sign a deal with Electronic Arts. Still, it's nice to see Disney and Marvel making some effort in video games, Tim says. The market is too large to ignore.
