Capcom Working on a New Fighting Game

Not so long long ago, its seemed like there was no hope for fans of Capcom fighting games. Ultra Street Fighter IV is coming soon to Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, and PC, but Capcom previously lacked the resources to do next-gen versions or move onto Street Fighter V.

"I don't have R&D budget and staff who they're just only make [Ultra Street Fighter IV]," replied Street Fighter producer Yoshinori Ono when asked about Street Fighter V on Twitter.

"Personally, I don't want to stop Street Fighter's main numbered series at IV," One said a few months ago. "Realistically speaking, developing a title for next-gen consoles requires a huge amount of staff members, and a large sum of money. The issue of money also applies to everyone else, as it'll be required to invest in a new console, game, and arcade stick."

So when Ono went on Twitter today to reveal that Capcom is looking for a designer for a new fighting game, some fans got excited. (Yes, I am one of those fans)

"Capcom wants a game designer and programmer for New Fighting Game. It's location is at Tokyo or Osaka Studio," Ono tweeted.

Ono said prospective applicants needed to speak Japanese, have prior experience in game development, and "love Fighting Game!" The game seems to be real early in development, but fans are already wondering if this planned title will be for Xbox One or PlayStation 4. Ono has not come out and confirmed anything yet.

"I don't know that's our target platform. ;P We're keep on going for [fighting games]" he tweeted in reply to a fan wondering if the game will be for next-gen.

The game will probably be Street Fighter-related, as Capcom shelved Darkstalkers earlier this year after the poor sales of Darkstalkers Resurrection. According to former senior vice president Christian Svensson in February of last year, Capcom was satisfied with Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom sales, but the game was trailing behind Super Street Fighter IV's numbers during the same period. It makes sense that Capcom would most likely head back to its most successful property for a new fighting game.
