Will Activision Blizzard Defy the Odds With This Video Game?

Activision Blizzard may have a tough time defying the odds with its game tied to The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Fool contributor Tim Beyers says in the following video.

Why? Video game tie-ins to comic book movies have a checkered history. There are exceptions, of course, such as the Batman titles inspired and informed by the various movies over the years. More often, though, you get a dud like the 2008 tie-in with Iron Man. Gamers didn't take to the title in the way that moviegoers took to the film.

If there's good news with ASM 2, for which Activision Blizzard and studio partner Beenox released a teaser trailer at New York Comic Con, it's that the first game received generally positive reviews. GameSpot gave it 7.5 out of 10 while Game Informer came in at 6.75.

Should investors care? We won't know till May, when both the game and the movie finally reach the public. In the meantime, Tim says it's important to remember that Activision Blizzard's major franchises are home cooked (i.e., World of Warcraft, Call of Duty). Any success with Spidey will be a bonus.

Now it's your turn to weigh in. Do you plan to pick up the Amazing Spider-Man 2 game? Will you see the film? Please watch the video to get Tim's full take, and then leave a comment to let us know where you stand.
