Google's Other Surprising Health Care Play

While the headlines focus on Calico, Google's most interesting health care play may be tied to Google Glass, Fool contributor Tim Beyers says in the following video.

Why Glass? Because, if tailored properly, its cameras could scan your eyes when not presenting you with new images. The idea comes courtesy of MIT research scientist John Werner, who wore a pair of interactive specs to a New York Comic-Con panel previewing the Science channel six-part series Futurescape. His take? Interactive sensory devices may be able to capture and analyze physical data that might be missed otherwise, Business Insider reported in covering the panel.

So, should investors expect health care and health monitoring to be a meaningful opportunity for Google? Certainly. Health monitoring is already big business if you count the millions who own Nike's FuelBand or the FitBit movement tracker.

But there are also other companies besides Google that are worth considering. In the video, Tim names one whose sensor technology could prove remarkably useful for personal health monitoring. Please watch for more and then leave a comment to let us know what you think.
