Securities America Promotes Verboon to Lead Continuity, Succession & Acquisition Services to Advisors

LA VISTA, Neb.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Independent broker-dealer Securities America, a wholly owned subsidiary of Ladenburg Thalmann Financial Services Inc. (NYSE MKT:LTS), has promoted Roger Verboon to director of practice succession and acquisition. In this new role, Verboon will focus exclusively on educating and guiding financial advisors and broker-dealer staff on business continuity, succession and acquisition planning.

"Securities America started offering advisors resources for addressing the challenges of continuity and succession planning over a decade ago," said Kirk Hulett, Securities America executive vice president of strategy and practice management. "With the aging of the advisor population, we saw the importance of having a full-time, in-house professional dedicated to assisting advisors in these important phases of their practice lifecycle."

Verboon, who joined Securities America in 1996, previously held the position of senior practice management consultant, which included coaching advisors in the company's Next Level, Associate Advisor and Jump Start Marketing coaching programs. He led the creation of Securities America's Practice Transition Center, a first-of-its-kind library of training videos, case studies and other tools that help advisors create and implement continuity, succession and acquisition plans.

"Securities America understands that exploring, documenting and executing a continuity, succession or acquisition plan can be overwhelming for many advisors," Verboon said. "Continuity and succession plans ensure the ability of advisors' practices to provide their livelihood and fund their retirement won't be decided by chance. These plans almost always involve another advisor acquiring that practice, so it makes sense to group these services together."

Verboon earned a bachelor's in business and management from the University of Maryland and holds Series 7 and 24 licenses. Prior to joining the company's Practice Management Group in 2003, Verboon managed the company's customer service call center. His background includes starting and operating multiple businesses.

Verboon's assistance to Securities America advisors includes:

  • Education and coaching on industry best practices

  • Connecting advisors to each other for continuity and succession planning purposes

  • Helping advisors identify acquisition opportunities

  • Business valuation and due diligence support

  • Deal structuring

  • Agreement review

  • Process coordination and book transfer

Securities America advisor David Winston of Lubbock, Texas, relied on Verboon's extensive experience when he acquired another practice in Dallas in 2011.

"From making me aware of the acquisition opportunity to helping me get the licensing and insurance company appointments to serve the new clients, Roger helped me every step of the way," Winston said.
