Mondelez Pours Into New Coffee Markets
Mondelez International wants to brew some coffee for consumers who live in the Netherlands, Spain, and Australia. The company announced last week it would begin selling various iterations of its Carte Noire and Velours Noir java brands in the Netherlands, and Carte Noire alone Down Under. For the Spanish market, Mondelez will make Carte Noire available in the form of filter pods for Nestle's Nespresso machines.
Mondelez has high hopes for the expansion. In the press release announcing the news, the company quoted President, Coffee Roland Weening as saying that the move "underlines our ambition to grow our share of the global coffee market and build Carte Noire into a billion dollar brand."
Via retailer Albert Hejn, the company's coffee became available today in the Netherlands. It estimates the country's market for the beverage totals roughly 739 million euros ($1 billion) annually.
The firm's Carte Noire filter pods will be distributed in Spain starting later this month. They are already available in Austria, France, Germany, and Switzerland.
The company did specify the timing for its entry into the Australian market, which it estimates is worth AU$875 million ($825 million).
