Time Warner Cable's WiFi Network Expands across Central and South Austin

900 Hot Spots Now Available across Four Popular Corridors - Free Two Week Trial for ACL Festival Partnership - TWC Customers Have Free Access to Nation's Largest WiFi Network: CablewiFi with 200,000 Hotspots

AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Whether you're taking in a show at the Continental Club, enjoying brunch at South Congress Cafe or doing your weekly shopping at Central Market on North Lamar, if you're in and around Austin you now can enjoy a growing number of TWC WiFi™ Hotspots.

Announced in April, Time Warner Cable has been steadily building its WiFi network in the Austin area and now offers 900 hotspots at no cost to Time Warner Cable customers with Standard Internet or above, and on a pay-as-you-go-basis to non-subscribers. By the end of the year, there will be 1,350 WiFi hotspots in Austin with continued growth in 2014.

"Attending live music events, experiencing the newest culinary sensations and even shopping for unique items on South Congress are just some of the things that make Austin great, and we want to connect Austinites to the Internet wherever they go around town," said Kathy Brabson, area vice president of operations for Time Warner Cable. "We're going to continue to invest to bring WiFi to areas in Austin where the community can take advantage of being connected to the Time Warner Cable network."

The company is focusing on deploying hotspots in popular, high traffic areas where its customers live, play, eat and work. Among the recent areas where TWC WiFi has been deployed in Austin are:

  • Barton Springs road (Zilker Park to S. Congress)

  • South Lamar (Riverside to Ben White Boulevard/Highway 71)

  • The South Congress area (Riverside to Ben White Boulevard/Highway 71)

  • 38th Street @ North Lamar corridor

"Investments in technology are important to build on Austin's strong reputation as a great place to live and work," said State Senator Kirk Watson. "I am pleased with TWC's investment to keep its customers connected when they leave home to experience the many great things Austin has to offer."

Time Warner Cable is also announcing a free two week trial of WiFi to commemorate their partnership with ACL Festival starting October 3 and ending October 13, 2013. Time Warner Cable is the official WiFi provider for the music festival that spans two three-day weekends October 4-6 and October 11-13, 2013. Festival goers can connect to the free Time Warner Cable WiFi network at the Austin Eats area.

In addition to Time Warner Cable's growing WiFi network in Austin, TWC WiFi deployment is underway in Southern California, Kansas City, Hawaii, Charlotte and New York City and currently provides access to over 23,000 hotspots. Time Warner Cable Internet customers also have access to the nation's largest free WiFi hotspot network, now with 200,000 hotspots, through the Cable WiFi® network. The network enables TWC Internet customers to access the hotspots operated by TWC and other Internet service providers in major cities across the country including New York City; Los Angeles; Chicago; Philadelphia; Atlanta; Baltimore; Boston; Washington, D.C.; San Francisco; Orlando; Tampa, Kansas City, Charlotte and more. Finding and connecting to a TWC WiFi Hotspot is easier than ever using the free TWC WiFi Finder app available in Google Play and the Apple App Store.
