STILLWATER, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- One in 10 Minnesotans will struggle to find enough food this week, and these people currently combine to miss a total of 100 million meals every year. To help combat the serious problem of hunger in Minnesota, Cub Foods is partnering with Second Harvest Heartland to host its annual "Give A Little, Feed A Lot" hunger awareness campaign from Oct. 6-19.

During the two-week campaign, customers will have the opportunity to "round up" their grocery purchases at the register of all 67 Cub Foods locations, as well as purchase food donation bags and non-perishable items, to help feed local families in need. Proceeds will be donated to Second Harvest Heartland and participating Minnesota Feeding America Food Banks. Additionally, annual partner MOM Brands is making a $20,000 donation to the campaign.

Kicking off the 2013 campaign will be a "Dash for Hunger" supermarket race at the Shorewood Cub store on Tuesday, Oct. 8. Mayors from Excelsior, Shorewood and Tonka Bay will team up with raffle winners from the Lake Minnetonka-Excelsior and Excelsior Rotary Clubs to race around the store, competing against each other to collect as much non-perishable food as possible. The team that collects the highest total in three minutes will receive a matching donation from Cub Foods and the Rotary Clubs for the local Intercongregational Communities Association (ICA) Food Shelf.
