The Google Growth Machine Can't Keep Up

Google's Gmail and Drive apps have sputtered recently. But what's bad news for users may be good news for users, Fool contributor Tim Beyers says in the following video.

Mail suffered a several-hours-long disruption on Sept. 23 and then another brief hiccup two days later. Google Talk then took two days off for some users. Tim says he's experienced a few minor Gmail glitches and slowness in Docs. What gives? Growing pains, Tim says.

New data from Gartner suggests total revenue from mobile app stores such as Google's Play and Apple's iTunes App Store is on pace to grow 44% this year after more than doubling in 2012.

Most signs also point to at least a half-billion Gmail users and rising adoption of Google Apps at the corporate level. CEO Larry Page needs to beef up investments in app infrastructure to unleash all the available horsepower in Google's growth machine, Tim says.

Do you agree? Are you using more or fewer Google apps today than you were last year? Please watch the video to get Tim's full take, and then leave a comment to let us know where you stand.
