Boulder Hosts Special Screening of Award-Winning Documentary GMO OMG with Film Makers

Silk®and Horizon®Sponsor the Film and Screening Event at the Boulder Theater

BROOMFIELD, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Silk,® the brand known for its best-selling soymilk, almondmilk and coconutmilk, and Horizon,® the leading national organic dairy brand, are sponsoring a screening of the new, award-winning documentary GMO OMG. Film makers Joshua Kunau and Jeremy Seifert will attend the screening and participate in a post-film Q&A session with audience members.

The screening event takes place on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 7:30 p.m. at the Boulder Theater in Boulder, Colo. Silk and Horizon also supported the making of the film, which explores how genetically modified organisms (GMOs) may impact our health, our planet and our freedom to choose what's in the food we eat. It traces filmmaker Jeremy Siefert's journey, as a concerned father, from Haiti to Norway to Paris in search of the truth about GMOs.

WhiteWave Foods, parent to Silk and Horizon, supports a national standard for labeling because consumers everywhere, in all 50 states, have the same right to know what's in their food. A national standard for GMO labeling would provide consistency for consumers and avoid the potential for 50 different standards in 50 different states.

"I have long advocated for transparency in food labels. Unfortunately, there is no federal requirement to label whether the foods we eat contain GMOs," said Congressman Jared Polis. "That is why I am a lead sponsor of the Genetically Engineered Food Right-to-Know Act—legislation that requires the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to clearly label Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs). I am proud to be working toward more informative food labels because I believe consumers have a right to know what they are eating. GMO OMG exposes the lack of transparency of the food industry and underscores the need to pass the Genetically Engineered Food Right-to-Know Act."

WhiteWave Foods is also committed to the non-GMO movement as a supporter of the national campaign, Just Label It!, which has collected more than 1.3 million signatures from concerned consumers in support of GMO labeling. WhiteWave has donated nearly $1 million to the national non-GMO movement. Silk is a proud participant in the Non-GMO Project product verification program, which provides independent verification that products are made in a system designed to avoid GMOs. Silk's plant-based beverages proudly carry the "Non-GMO Project Verified" Seal. All of Horizon's products carry the USDA Organic Seal, and comply with the National Organic Program's stringent requirements, including those regarding GMO ingredients.
