ARCADIS Wins Award of Excellence for Work at Two Waterfront Facilities

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- ARCADIS (EURONEXT: ARCAD), the leading pure play global engineering and consultancy firm, announced today it received the 2013 Indiana Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. (ABC) Award of Excellence in Merit Shop Construction for two recent design projects: the Trident Refit Facility Dry Dock Rehabilitation project at Naval Submarine Base, Kings Bay, Ga, and for the Port Operations Waterfront Facility project at Marine Corps Support Facility, Blount Island, Jacksonville, Fla. The awards were presented last night at the 2013 ABC Annual Awards Gala at the Indiana Roof Ballroom in Indianapolis.

The $7.2M rehabilitation of the Trident Refit Facility involved the replacement, rehabilitation, and repair of various architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical aspects of the 220,000-square-foot facility. Additional environmental components included sampling and testing of the potentially hazardous waste and sludge within the wet walls and conduits of the dry dock. Due to inherent scheduling challenges of an active military installation, the project couldn't follow a typical design-build procedure, however all design needs were successfully met and no design cost increases were incurred.

The Port Operations Waterfront Facility project at Blount Island involved the construction of a 12,000-square-foot two-story building, parking area and support facilities. The ARCADIS design team worked closely with the construction team and Naval Facilities Engineering Command to design a fully enclosed, multifunctional facility with offices for administration, IT and security. The collaborative approach between the design team, contractors and client resulted in a substantially shortened design time-frame. A 60 percent submittal stage was attained within 45 days of Concept Design review, and the $3.3M project was finished ahead of schedule.

"Receiving an award such as the Award of Excellence from ABC is a great honor," said Heather Polinsky, director at ARCADIS U.S. "I am very proud of the work ARCADIS has accomplished by applying innovative solutions to complex challenges."

The Port Operations Waterfront Facility is pending a LEED-NC Silver rating from the U.S. Green Building Council.
