Born on YouTube and Fueled by Kickstarter, 'Dick Figures The Movie' Surges in Precedent-Setting Digital-Only Premiere Week

Mondo Media, Cinedigm, and Six Point Harness Send Their Irreverent "Little Animated Movie That Could" Into Marketplace with Unique Multi-Platform Digital Distribution Model Including Free Chapter Installments of Film Over Next 10 Weeks

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- True to its digital roots on YouTube, Cinedigm's Dick Figures The Movie has catapulted into the upper echelons of digital platform sales charts following its unique ALL DIGITAL premiere on Tuesday, September 17th. The Kickstarter-backed $300,000 animated adult comedy is currently available on digital platforms including Amazon Prime, iTunes, GooglePlay and more, performing solidly against major studio, multi-million dollar titles.

Responding to the unique digital-only release, the massive, worldwide fan base for Dick Figures rapidly activated, flooding reviews sites with 5-star ratings. The film is based on the 43-episode web series distributed to Mondo Media's 1.8 million YouTube subscribers.

In another unique distribution ploy, for the next 10 weeks the film will be distributed in chapters on YouTube, one-per-week, continuing to drive transactional outlets.

"Cinedigm and Mondo Media have found a way to capitalize on the sizable and rabid online fanbase that over 350 million YouTube views generates," said John Evershed, CEO of Mondo Media. "We are thrilled those fans are supporting the film they helped make happen."

From the creative minds of Ed Skudder and Zack Keller comes a 73-minute animated feature. Skudder, a USC film grad, and Keller, a Pixar veteran with credits on WALL-E and UP, produced the feature at Six Point Harness, a prominent independent studio based in Los Angeles.

The movie comes on the heels of 40 episodes of YouTube domination, which all began on November 18th, 2010 with a short episode titled "A Bee or Something." 350 million views later, the animated series is an international phenomenon.

Los Angeles based Six Point Harness is both a world-class producer of animated content and a resource for top-shelf animation production for TV, motion pictures and the web. 6PH has been in business for over ten years. Notable projects include Tom Hanks' Electric City, MTV's Good Vibes, Nick Jr.'s Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! and Nickelodeon's El Tigre. This year, 6PH is releasing Dick Figures The Movie, a home-grown animated feature from the studio's own hit web series. The 6PH team is known for its development skill, technical knowledge, sleek production pipeline and broad range of creative styles.
