American InterContinental University Named a Top Military Friendly School For 5thStraight Year

SCHAUMBURG, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- For the fifth year in a row, American InterContinental University (AIU), has been named to the Military Friendly Schools® list by Victory Media, formerly known as GI Jobs Magazine.

"American InterContinental University is honored to be named to the Military Friendly Schools List once again," said Richard Kennedy, director of military relations at AIU. "This recognition acknowledges the dedication we have long had to providing the services needed to cater to the thousands of military personnel who select AIU to further their education."

The 2014 Military Friendly Schools list honors the top 20 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace America's military service members, veterans and spouses as students. The 2014 list of Military Friendly Schools was compiled from a survey of more than 10,000 schools nationwide approved for VA tuition funding. Schools were surveyed on the services and accommodations available to military students such as providing special policies addressing the unique concerns of service members, offering programs especially in demand by military students and having distance learning options.

Being named to the Top Military Friendly Schools List is among many acknowledgements AIU has received for supporting military students. From 2009 to 2013, AIU was also recognized on the Military Times Edge "Best for Vets" list and from 2007 to 2013 by Military Advanced Education Magazine.

"AIU is one of the few schools in the United States that trains its faculty and staff to understand and empathize with the experiences and concerns of military students and their families," said Kennedy, a veteran of the U.S. Navy. "Our in-house training program called 'The Person Inside the Uniform,' prepares our employees to better serve our many military students' unique social, emotional, financial and academic needs."

AIU also assists military students by offering grants and participating in federal funding programs, such as the Post 9/11 G.I. Bill and Yellow Ribbon Program.
