Garmin Selects COACH14™ for New VIRB™ Action Cameras

CSR Enables Superior Image Quality, Low Power and Functionality in New Action Cameras

SUNNYVALE, Calif. & CAMBRIDGE, United Kingdom--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- CSR plc (LSE: CSR; NASDAQ: CSRE) today announced that Garmin has chosen CSR's COACH14™ Digital Video Processor for its first action cameras. The CSR powered water-resistant VIRB™ and VIRB Elite™, launched in August, enable users to capture their most daring stunts and tricks in quality HD video.

"This is our first premium action camera series and we wanted to make as big an impact on the market as possible," comments Dan Bartel, Vice President of Worldwide Sales at Garmin. "By including CSR's COACH technology we know customers will get the high-quality video they desire. We've worked with CSR for a number of years and their advanced technology always enables us to differentiate our products from the competition."

COACH14, with its high quality video and still capability, low power and advanced features, is perfectly designed to suit the needs of action cameras. It includes proprietary Digital Video Stabilization (DVS) technology which compensates for shakiness without the need for a gyro, ensuring steady footage even in extreme situations such as snowboarding or mountain biking. It also includes market-leading noise reduction capabilities which allows for high-grade footage even in low-light conditions, advanced color reproduction and improved dynamic range behavior.

In addition, COACH14's internal lens correction capabilities enable VIRB users to choose either a fisheye look or undistorted video. COACH14 also delivers proven stills processing capabilities, ensuring still images taken with the VIRB's 16 megapixel camera are of the highest quality. These capabilities include photo burst, time lapse options and stills photography while recording video.

"The action camera market is booming with over thirteen million units predicted to be shipped by 2016," says Slava Barabash, Vice President of Imaging Products at CSR. "By using COACH14, which cuts out gyros, Garmin has been able to lower manufacturing costs while still ensuring the VIRB will be able to capture high quality, full HD detail, whatever the conditions. This ensures consumers get the best combination of quality and cost."
