U.S. Navy Announces 27 New Contract Awards Monday

The Department of Defense announced a staggering 51 new contracts on Monday worth more than $2.14 billion combined. Of these, more than half of the contracts awarded (27, to be precise) benefited just one of the four major branches of the military -- the United States Navy. Among them:

  • FLIR Systems won a $49.8 million firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract to supply Patrol Boat Electro-Optics Systems (PB-EOS) to the U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Navy. PB-EOS is used to provide enhanced visual imagery to augment existing electronic sensors aboard ship in nighttime and low visibility conditions. FLIR is expected to complete deliveries of these systems by September 2018.

  • ATK Federal Cartridge Co. subsidiary won a $17.1 million firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract to supply .40-caliber ball and jacketed hollow point ammunition to the U.S. Coast Guard and the Naval Criminal Investigative Services through September 2018.

  • AAR was awarded a $15.2 million year-long option exercise to provide ship-based and shore-rebased helicopter services, including search and rescue support; med-evac; passenger transfer; cargo resupply; and "dynamic interface testing" to the U.S. Navy's 5th and 7th Fleets through September 2014.

  • Erickson Air-Crane subsidiary Evergreen Helicopters was awarded a similar $8.4 million year-long option exercise to provide ship-based and shore-rebased helicopter services to the Navy's 2nd, 5th, and 6th Fleets through September 2014.

  • Constellation Energy subsidiary Baltimore Gas and Electric won a $7.3 million firm-fixed-price contract to build an energy and water conservation project at the United States Naval Academy (USNA) in Annapolis, Md. BG&E will upgrade a USNA water treatment plant, aiming to reduce electric, gas, and water consumption in a project expected to be completed by April 2015.
