MicroCoal™ Technologies Supports the Warsaw Communique

Communiqué calls for the immediate use of high-efficiency low-emissions coal combustion technologies.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- MicroCoal™ Technologies Inc. (CNSX: MTI) (the "Company" or "MicroCoal™) is pleased to announce that it has today signed the World Coal Association (WCA) petition in support of the Warsaw Communique.

The Warsaw Communiqué

There are many misconceptions about coal and its environmental impact. Many believe that the use of coal is incompatible with meeting the challenge of climate change. We disagree. The World Coal Association, together with the Polish Ministry of Economy, has developed 'The Warsaw Communiqué' to outline practical steps that can be taken to tackle climate change and allow coal to continue to play its role as an affordable, abundant, easily accessible source of energy.

Technologies exist which allow coal to be used and climate impacts to be minimised. It's imperative that these technologies are deployed as widely and as quickly as possible. This is a role not only for industry but for governments, development banks and the international community.

Three-Step Call to Action

Ahead of the UN climate talks in Warsaw in November (COP19), the global coal industry is calling for urgent action to support and deploy technologies that help to meet the climate challenge.

The Warsaw Communiqué includes a three-step call to action:

  • We call for the immediate use of high-efficiency low-emissions coal combustion technologies, wherever it is economic and technically feasible at existing and new power plants, as an immediate step in lowering greenhouse gas emissions from coal-fired power plants around the world and a necessary milestone towards the deployment of carbon capture utilisation and storage technologies once demonstrated and commercialised.

  • We call on governments to set an ambitious pathway, before COP20, to move the global average efficiency of coal-fired power generation plants to current state of the art levels and to support R&D efforts to further improve the efficiency of coal combustion technologies.

  • We call on development banks to support developing countries in accessing clean coal technologies, including high-efficiency low-emissions coal combustion technologies.

If you agree that clean technologies should be deployed as widely as possible and that coal should continue to play a role as an affordable source of energy, please endorse The Warsaw Communiqué athttp://www.worldcoal.org/extract/the-warsaw-communique/

The Warsaw Communiqué, with a list of all signatories, will be delivered to the President of the 19th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP19), which is being held in Warsaw, from 11-22 November 2013.

About the World Coal Association
The World Coal Association is a global industry association formed of major international coal producers and stakeholders (see Corporate Members). WCA works to demonstrate and gain acceptance for the fundamental role coal plays in achieving a sustainable and lower carbon energy future. Membership is open to companies and not-for-profit organisations with a stake in the future of coal from anywhere in the world, with member companies represented at Chief Executive level.

WCA provides a voice for coal in international energy, environment and development forums, presenting the case for coal to key decision-makers, including ministers, development banks, NGOs, international media, the energy industry, business and finance and research bodies. WCA produces material that improves understanding of the vital role of coal, organises workshops, holds meetings with senior policy-makers, and develops policy positions to inform international policy discussions in bodies such as the European Commission, European Parliament, United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, UN Environment Programme, World Bank, World Economic Forum and national governments. WCA is the global network for the coal industry

About MicroCoal™ Technologies Inc.
The Company is focused on commercializing its unique, clean-coal upgrading technology known as MicroCoal™; a low-cost, patented microwave technology that reduces moisture in coal resulting in an upgraded energy content of coal. This process provides significant financial benefits to coal-fired electrical generating utilities such as: large cost savings from switching to low-rank coal, substantial increases in boiler efficiencies and heat output, improved ash efficiencies and reductions in scrubber costs. Important environmental benefits including reductions in most greenhouse gases (SOx up to 70%, NOx up to 50%, CO2 up to 17%) and mercury are also key primary benefits from implementation of this technology. The Company is currently constructing the first commercial facility in Indonesia with other projects soon to be announced.

We seek safe harbor.

On behalf of the Board of Directors,
