ENGLEWOOD, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- IHS Inc. Executive Chairman Jerre Stead has been named by Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper to serve as chief recovery officer to help lead the state's efforts in recovering from the recent floods that devastated communities in 17 Colorado counties. In this role, Mr. Stead will work closely with the Colorado Office of Emergency Management (OEM), the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and local partners to help lead the state's response in repairing damage from the floods that have affected thousands of people in communities along the Front Range and on the Eastern Plains of Colorado.

"We are about to embark on a rebuilding effort of a truly epic scale," Gov. Hickenlooper said. "It's essential that we have the right team in place to help coordinate efforts at the local, state and federal levels. We want to recover and rebuild quickly, better and in the most efficient way possible. Jerre is the perfect person to help us design and deliver a coordinated response to this disaster."

Mr. Stead said: "We are honored to be asked to assist Colorado. One of our highest priorities at IHS is to support our communities to ensure they are strong and thriving, especially in times of need such as this. IHS is donating our time to help Colorado communities recover in as expeditious a manner as possible. We look forward to partnering with OEM and our local and federal partners in the critical days ahead. We will rebuild stronger."

Flooding started on September 11 after large areas along the Front Range of Colorado and in the mountains received nearly 20 inches of rain. Damage to homes, businesses and infrastructure is severe and extensive, and the impacted counties have been declared major disaster areas. To date, 10 people are confirmed or presumed dead and more than 2,000 homes have been destroyed, and thousands evacuated or displaced from their homes. More than 200 lane miles of state highway are damaged or impacted by the floods, and 50 bridges are destroyed or damaged.

Mr. Stead will help lead recovery efforts for Colorado including securing and supervision of staff and working with FEMA and the Colorado OEM for the Governor's Office. Recovery efforts will focus on:

  • Ensuring all recovery assessments are completed by coordinating with OEM.

  • Ensuring all local communities understand resource allocation by coordinating with OEM and working with members of the General Assembly.

  • Ensuring initial assessment of winter conditions and recovery needs, with an execution plan for response presented to the Governor.

  • Advocating for federal funding and ensure that Colorado receives all available funding.

  • Ensuring quality control of work and "building for the future."

  • Establishing mechanisms for fundraising for recovery and for use of volunteers, including home rebuilding, and establishing a volunteer coordination structure and fundraising ability to assist in efforts.

  • Coordinating with local leaders to ensure positive working relations.

Mr. Stead became Executive Chairman of IHS (NYS: IHS) on December 1, 2000 after retiring from Ingram Micro in May of 2000, where he served as Chairman and CEO. He assumed the additional role of CEO for IHS on September 20, 2006, a role he maintained until June of 2013.
